Center for Tropical Research receives major gift from Margery Nicolson
CTR is pleased to announce a generous gift of $60,000 to support new research aimed at linking the migratory routes of birds.
The research will use the latest in genetic and isotopic approaches to identify where North American breeding birds winter in Latin America. Linking breeding and wintering areas of migratory birds is an essential first step in CTR’s efforts to understand the transmission and spread of infectious diseases, such as avian influenza and West Nile virus, as well as why some migratory bird populations are declining.
The unifying goal of the senior scientists, postdoctoral researchers, and graduate students at the Center for Tropical Research is to understand the biotic processes that underlie and maintain the diversity of life in the tropics and to advance conservation efforts that protect endangered species and habitats.
