SUMMARY:After Geoengineering: A Book Talk with Holly Jean Buck\, UCLA Law
DESCRIPTION:At a UCLA Emmett Institute book talk\, Holly Jean Buck\, Emmett Climate Engineering Fellow in Environmental Law and Policy at UCLA Law\, will share insights from her new book\, After Geoengineering.\n\nDate: 02/18/2020\nTime: 12:15 PM – 01:30 PM\nLocation: UCLA School of Law\, Room 1420\n\n\n\nAt a UCLA Emmett Institute book talk\, Holly Jean Buck\, Emmett Climate Engineering Fellow in Environmental Law and Policy at UCLA Law will share insights from her new book\, After Geoengineering: Climate Tragedy\, Repair\, and Restoration. Ted Parson\, Dan and Rae Emmett Professor of Environmental Law and Faculty Co-Director of the Emmett Institute at UCLA Law will moderate the conversation. \nIn this book\, Buck charts a possible course to a liveable future. Climate restoration will require not just innovative technologies to remove carbon from the atmosphere\, but social and economic transformation. The steps we must take are enormous\, and they must be taken soon. Looking at industrial-scale seaweed farms\, the grinding of rocks to sequester carbon at the bottom of the sea\, the restoration of wetlands\, and reforestation\, Buck examines possible methods for such transformations and meets the people developing them. \nThe event is free and open to the public. Lunch will be provided. Please RSVP here by February 14\, 2020. \nHolly Jean Buck is an Emmett Climate Engineering Fellow in Environmental Law and Policy at UCLA School of Law for 2019-2020. Her research focuses on environmental sociology\, science and technology studies\, and international agriculture and rural development. She is cross-appointed with UCLA’s Institute of the Environment and Sustainability. Buck received her Ph.D. in Development Sociology from Cornell University.
