SUMMARY:How to Make Your Job a Climate Job
DESCRIPTION:We need millions of people working on climate to address the demands of the climate crisis. \nIn the next ten years\, we can expect 100 million people to transition their careers to climate. \nGetting a climate job is one of the most tangible climate actions an individual can make; it’s 40+ hours a week that you’re funneling into concrete climate actions. \nHowever\, there is a significant disconnect between available roles and job seekers on the market. There tends to be a more straightforward path with an influx of full-time climate jobs for hard engineering\, scientific\, and software professionals. In contrast\, it can be more difficult for those in non-technical fields to transition their careers to climate. \nREGISTER HERE \nThis upcoming webinar will provide resources and guidance for: \nJob seekers who are currently employed and looking to make an impact in their current role while they outline their path to a full-time climate position. \nThose who are happily employed and not looking to transition their careers to climate fully but want to find ways to make a direct climate impact. \nThe Climate People team has gathered experts from Project Drawdown\, Climate Club\, LinkedIn\, and Browngirl Green to discuss how you can rework your current role to focus more on climate solutions. \nHear from: \nAiyana Bodi\, a Senior Associate at Drawdown Labs \nAdam Braun\, the Co-Founder and CEO of Climate Club \nBen Lai\, a Senior Software Developer and Lead of an Employee Green Team at LinkedIn \nKristy Drutman\, Co-Founder of Browngirl Green

SUMMARY:The Spatial Dilemma of Sustainable Transportation and Just Affordable Housing - UCLA Housing\, Neighborhood and Health Seminar Series
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Paul M. Ong\nResearch Professor\, UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs\nDirector\, UCLA Center for Neighborhood Knowledge \nCalifornia’s intense affordable housing crisis has highlighted the fundamental linkage between land use\, transportation\, climate policy\, and equity. Reducing greenhouse gas emissions\, the main contributor to climate change\, is a priority policy goal for the state of California\, and cutting vehicle miles traveled (VMT) is a key mechanism for achieving this goal. In order to equitably achieve this reduction\, it is critical that affordable housing options be situated in areas that facilitate less driving\, through reliable access to public transit\, walkability\, and proximity to employment. These elements\, among others\, can combine to create more sustainable communities. \nWe hope you can join us for this research seminar where Dr. Ong will discuss his project that examines the spatial distribution of tenant-based Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) units and Low-income Housing Tax Credit units to understand whether geographic patterns and trends are consistent with climate change and equity goals. \nFind reports and briefs associated with this project here. \nREGISTER HERE \nThis webinar is co-sponsored by the UCLA Center for Neighborhood Knowledge\, UCLA Institute of Transportation Studies and UCLA Ziman Center for Real Estate.
