SUMMARY:EARTH MONTH: Learn-at-Lunch Presentation on “Greening” Your Office
DESCRIPTION:Learn-at-Lunch Presentation on “Greening” Your Office with Deputy Chief Sustainability Officer\, Bonny Bentzin presented by UCLA Staff Assembly & sponsored by UCLA Facilities Management \nLocation:  2102A Facilities Management Building (Emergency Response Conference Room\, 2nd Floor) \n Spaces Available:  45 \n  \nDid you know that the University of California has a Sustainable Practices Policy\, developed by the 10 UC Campuses\, that set an ambitious target of Zero Waste by 2020? Pursuant to this Policy\, UCLA developed a Zero Waste Plan\, to map out how to reduce our waste and get to zero waste to landfill\, or 95% or higher diversion by 2020.  Every action taken and initiative implemented by all departments at UCLA will bring us closer towards this goal.  Want to know how you can make a difference? Then you should attend this workshop to learn how you and your team can contribute to UCLA achieving Zero Waste by 2020. \nThrough a two-part presentation\, we will provide information on how your office can become certified as a green office and detailed information on the impact you can have simply through the purchase of environmentally-preferred products. \nUCLA Deputy Chief Sustainability Officer\, Bonny Bentzin\, will first provide a brief overview of our sustainability policy outlined by the Office of the President for context.  Then Bonny will review the City of Los Angeles Green Business Program (http://www.greenbizla.org/)\, the certification process\, and how your department can join the list of organizations making this commitment. \nEmma Sorrell\, Sustainability Manager at UCLA Housing & Hospitality Services\, and her team of UCLA students will present their research into increasing awareness of sustainability through purchasing environmentally-preferred products. This session intends to educate UCLA staff on the importance of purchasing green office supplies. This research team will be presenting a catalog of green office supplies that are available through BruinBuy. \nAs long as we continue to work together\, achieving Zero Waste by 2020 is not just a goal but will be a reality for UCLA. \nSpeakers: \n Bonny Bentzin\, Deputy Chief Sustainability Officer\, UCLA Facilities Management \nEmma Sorrell\, Sustainability Manager\, UCLA Housing & Hospitality Services \nHousing Sustainable Action Research team \nSpace is extremely limited\, so please register ASAP! \nMap of location for L@L Lecture: http://maps.ucla.edu/campus/?locid=360 \n  \nShortened RSVP Link: http://ucla.in/1S0t7kz \n
