SUMMARY:BioBlitz 2017 at UCLA
DESCRIPTION:Which city has the most nature and the most nature lovers? \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn partnership with UCLA’s Sustainable L.A. Grand Challenge\, the City Nature Challenge 2017 (April 14-18) will help us find out! Just in time for National Citizen Science Day (April 15) and Earth Day (April 22)\, 16 U.S. cities are asking residents of these urban areas to explore nature all around them and document the species they find. You’ll be amazed at the biodiversity of plants\, animals\, fungi\, and other organisms living in our midst! \nUsing the iNaturalist app\, groups of participants and experts will conduct a campus BioBlitz – an intense period of biological surveying to record all the living species within an area. We will explore Sage Hill\, the Mildred B. Mathias Botanical Garden\, and the central area of campus. Just bring your smart phone or camera and your curiosity. No previous experience necessarry. \nIn addtion to making UCLA and Los Angeles look good in this competition\, you’ll learn how your organization can use the iNaturalist platform to conduct or contribute to future research projects. Such work will improve the resilience of our local ecosystems in this era of climate change and the need for public support of the sciences. For environmental educators or green space professionals\, learn an easy way to engage the community in connecting with nature! \nFor fun\, please consider wearing plant or animal prints to the event.
