Attend a UCLA Earth Day festival and get involved in other ways to support environmental protection and sustainable living this April.
Celebrating and promoting care for our planet is part of the green in our blue and gold public university. Blooming brightest every April, campus sustainability will be on full display, with an Earth Day Extravaganza hosted by the USAC Facilities Commission (FAC) in collaboration with UCLA Sustainability and several other campus partners on Wednesday, April 22, from 12:00 – 5:00 p.m. in Wilson Plaza.
Education is a major component of sustainability. Begin by learning about what Bruins are working on here at UCLA. Students, staff and faculty are advancing sustainability, developing climate change solutions, promoting conservation and biodiversity, driving policy at home and around the globe, and educating a new generation of environmentally conscious leaders committed to helping the planet.
Bruins can also explore opportunities for engagement, through happenings taking place during Earth Month, most importantly at the Earth Day Extravaganza.
UCLA’s special festival invites Bruins to explore various booths, featuring different organizations dedicated to sustainable living practices including: BruinDine covering their food recovery events, Good Clothes Good People hosting a clothing drive, Swipe Out Hunger giving out seed bombs, ASUCLA sharing about their Resuables and Reuzzi programs, and Sustainagoals from FAC featuring their own junk journal making.
Attendees can also participate in hands-on activities like block printing, embroidery, and t-shirt and tote bag making, and enjoy performances from musical and cultural groups, including The Last Minutes.
Food trucks will provide free vegetarian food to encourage an eco-friendlier diet. There will also be a green food demonstration by the UCLA Teaching Kitchen to inspire Bruins to incorporate sustainable cooking in their everyday lives.
There are several other activities centered on raising awareness and encouraging action on environmental issues here on campus and around Los Angeles. Get involved by touring UCLA’s botanical garden, joining a nature hike led by Bruins, learning about careers in climate, participating in a car-free open streets event, and more.
