High-Quality Jobs in the Clean Energy Transition
August 9, 2023 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Wage inequality in the United States has increased dramatically over the past 40 years, but historic new investments in climate and clean energy in recent federal legislation provide a significant opportunity to create high-quality jobs with strong labor standards. The Biden administration has also issued executive orders to encourage high-road labor standards on federally funded climate and clean energy projects.
In this webinar, EFI Foundation CEO Ernest J. Moniz will sit down with Senator Tina Smith (D-MN) to discuss how high-quality job creation in the clean energy transition can benefit workers and communities and have broader beneficial ripple effects across the U.S. labor market, economy, and society.
Following their conversation, EFI Foundation Distinguished Associate David Foster and Legal Fellow Hannah Sachs will give an exclusive overview of a new EFI Foundation report: “Job Quality—The Keystone of Clean Energy Industrial Policy.” The report delves into how to leverage the spending power of the federal government to ensure the creation of accessible, high-quality jobs with family-sustaining wages, comprehensive benefits, and the free and fair choice to join a union.
The webinar will conclude with a panel discussion between clean energy business leaders and union representatives on why and how they have chosen to collaborate using the tools contained in recent legislation and analyzed in the report.
