Thursday, June 12, 2025 – 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
UCLA students who reside off-campus in North Westwood Village will be able to donate and/or dispose of their unwanted bulky items at three locations throughout the neighborhood. These drop-off locations will provide opportunities to donate gently used items to nonprofit organizations. The locations will also serve as waste disposal zones for those items that cannot be repurposed. Volunteers will be on hand to help determine if items can be donated or need to be discarded.
To dispose of electronic waste please visit a Los Angeles run S.A.F.E. Center. The UCLA S.A.F.E. Center is temporarily closed. Other locations can be found at this link.

Why Should I Donate?
Reducing and efficiently managing our waste is one of the ways we can reduce our environmental footprint. As a community, we can get closer to our zero waste goals by using lower-waste alternatives and changing our habits. Each of us has the power to make a difference in our everyday lives!
Rethinking where rubbish ends up is not just about protecting the environment — it concerns people as well. Landfills are often located in lower socioeconomic areas, with waste potentially close to homes. One person’s trash can be harmful to another, making zero waste a social justice issue.
Keeping our communities clean is important, not just in terms of appearance, but to ensure all people can safely access the sidewalks and streets
While you may have no further need for the items, if they’re in good condition, others could give them a new home.

Resources for Property Owners
As students plan to move out of their apartments, encourage them to responsibly dispose of their unwanted furniture and household items. With simple planning, they can help reduce waste that ends up on nearby sidewalks and ultimately, in landfills. Here are some ways in which you can encourage residents to properly dispose of their belonging:
- Provide or post a list of nonprofit organizations where they can schedule a donation pick up. UCLA Thrift Shop, Council Thrift Shop, Out of the Closet, Habitat for Humanity ReStore, and St. Joseph’s are just a few options.
- Provide a 311 flyer so they can schedule a Los Angeles Sanitation bulky item pick up BEFORE they set the items on the curb.
- If a large number of tenants are moving out at the same time, you can offer to schedule a donation or bulky item pickup for the building and notify your tenants of the pick up date.
- Request additional trash pickups from your waste management comapny.
- Encourage students to participate in Sustainable Move Out (events will take place in June).
Please note: dumping furniture, e-waste, materials, packaging, and equipment on L.A. streets, sidewalks, and alleys is a crime and is subject to increased fines or criminal prosecution.
The City is cracking down on those who trash our sidewalks and streets: Penalties for violations under City and/or State law are now punishable by a fine ranging from a $200 fine to as much as $25,000 and/or jail time.
To dispose of electronic waste, universal waste, and some hazardous waste you can drop them off at an L.A. run S.A.F.E. center
The UCLA S.A.F.E. Center is temporarily closed. Other locations can be found at this link.
